Team Travel Policy
Each season, swimmers may be required to travel to competitions and/or swim camps. This may involve transportation by a car, van, coach bus or plane as well as hotel accommodations, food and restaurant meals.
Any exceptions to the team’s travel plans (i.e. for Health, Medical, other reasons) must be requested in writing to the Head Coach a minimum 21 days prior to departure. The Head Coach will consult with the Club President and Travel Director and will reply directly to the family requesting the exception. Should a swimmer leave the group accompanied by a parent/ legal guardian and has previous board approval, they (parent/legal guardian) will assume immediate and full responsibility for the swimmer and thereby release the Club from any liability and/or obligations related to the swimmer.
Should a swimmer violate the Code of Conduct or leave the group without any prior communication with BOTH the Chaperone and the Coach, he/she will be subject to immediate disciplinary action (as deemed appropriate by the Chaperone and Coach) as well as follow-up action on their return.
For the 2009-2010 Season, the travel plans are outlined below. Questions should be directed to your coach or our Head Coach, Mike Rutledge.
This year we have selected a few meets as mandatory team travel. We continue to work toward creating some team opportunities within the meet schedule while being fully aware of the costs for out of town meets.
The Following meets have been designated mandatory team travel.
- Eastern Canadian Championship in February (Montreal): Team travel is mandatory and swimmers are encouraged to travel and stay as a team. There is the option for swimmers to travel with their family and stay in the hotel and the same hotel room, however this must the same hotel as the team is staying-in and there will be no exceptions. The goal is to have all of the athletes together, and as such, all swimmers must fully participate in team meetings, dinners, etc.
- Ontario Team Championship, Selection Meet in April (Nepean): Swimmers that are not interested in team travel cannot accept their position on the team. Swimmers will travel as a team and stay in the hotel as a team. Parents are not allowed to stay in the hotel rooms with swimmers Selection is made by the coaching staff based on criteria shown on the website (http://www.mississaugaswimming.com/coaches/dts/dts.htm).
- Age Group Nationals in July (Winnipeg): This is the final Age Group meet of the year. The process will be the same for Eastern’s (above), where parents can travel with their swimmer and will be welcome to stay with their swimmers in the same hotel as the team. When we allow the parents to stay with the swimmers on a team trip the swimmers are to fully participate in all team meetings, dinners, etc.
The following meets have not been made team travel. At these meets the Club intends to offer an optional travel opportunity with the Club for families who not able to bring their swimmer to the meet.
- Spring Nationals in April (Montreal)
- Ontario Junior Provincials in July (Nepean)
- Summer Nationals in July (Victoria)
The following meets are not team travel and the Club will have no opportunity for travel assistance. For these meets we recommend that families work together to assist each other in making sure that swimmers have the opportunity to attend if desired.
- Nothers Meet in November (London)
- 12&under Celebration in January (London)
