Bottle Drive - MSSAC Fundraiser!

Thank you MSSAC parents for your help in making the bottle drive an excellent fundraiser for the club. We were able to collect $200.80 .

Over the summer we would appreciate you saving up all your bottles again, because we will be doing this again in October. The summer is usually a good time for parties and generally more beverages are consumed in this season.  Ask friends and co-workers to collect them as well and bring them to UTM every Saturday in October.

Also, I will be collecting them at the MSSAC Orientation session at the beginning of October. If these times are not convenient for you or your group next season, please contact me at t-l.decsey@sympatico.ca and I will come to your group’s practice where I can collect bottles from everyone who wishes to contribute.

Thank you again,
Tom Decsey, Fundraising Director

National Junior Coach Visits Mississauga

Ken McKinnon, Swimming Canada’s National Junior Coach, was in Mississauga this week and took the time to come by the Gold I and Silver I practices.  It is always exciting to have staff from our National team come to visit our program and this was no exception.  Ken had an opportunity to interact with the swimmers and coaches on deck and the swimmers felt eager to perform.  During the two practice sessions that Ken attended, there was some great swimming and it was nice to see the swimmers rising to the challenges of the day.  We had numerous best workout times and it was a lot of fun.  We look forward to the next opportunity for Ken to stop by.  Thanks Ken!

IMPORTANT JR LC PROVINCIALS CHANGE OF LOCATION ANNOUNCEMENT

SUBJECT: Host Location change for 2009 Jr Provincials LC to London, Ontario
ATTENTION: Swim Ontario membership

As has been reported in the media and the City of Toronto, strike action by city of Toronto employees appears increasingly imminent. This has positioned the Swim Ontario 2009 JR Provincials LC as a "Vulnerable Event" - if hosted at the Etobicoke Olympium. This information has come directly from the Head of Aquatics for the City of Toronto. At this time there is no guarantee that our current host can seamlessly deliver our Championship event. In addition, efforts to deliver the event in the GTA would not allow for a seamless delivery maintaining the integrity and format of the desired championship environment.

With the cooperation and support of the London Aquatic Club, City of London, and Etobicoke Swimming we have secured the London Aquatic Club as hosts of the 2009 Jr. Provincials LC at the Canada Games Pool on the same dates and times. The championships will maintain all advertised meet formats, rules and delivery including the procedures for entry. Swim Ontario and Etobicoke swimming are disappointed that the later are not able to host; however they have been extremely cooperative in arriving at this contingency plan. ESWIM's meet management will maintain their lead role as meet management to assist LAC with the leadership and management of the competition.

Due to the timing and urgency of this decision, Swim Ontario is strongly encouraging all participating clubs to provide officials (both senior officials and timers) for the event, in particular for Thursday and Friday. Our host is very hopeful that the membership can assist.
Swim Ontario understands that this late announcement and change of venue are disruptive to our clubs, swimmers and their families. However we are confident that this announcement provides all of our members the ability to make effective alternate travel arrangements. For those seeking accommodations, the University of Western Ontario Residence and Conference Services have supplied the following opportunity.  Download UWO accommodation info here: <http://www.swimontario.com/userfiles/file/Meet%20Packages/2009%20UWO%20Housing%20info.pdf>

Swim Ontario is very grateful to ESWIM and LAC and the City of London for their cooperative efforts to deliver the 2009 Provincial Championships LC as seamlessly as possible.

Great performances at the AGI and Senior Provincials

The AGI & Senior Provinical Meet presented a great opportunity to race some of the best swimmers in the local area while still under the stress of quality training.  There were many great performances this weekend highlighted by the club records by Olivia Bellio, Nicolette Goncalves, and Abdullah Ahmad.  Olivia broke her own record in the 200 free, Nicolette also broke her own existing record in the 100 fly, and Abdullah broke the record for the 10&under boys 200 fly by over 15 seconds.

Wave 1 & 2, Fun Meet on May 31st

Congratulations to all of the swimmers for some great races!  And thanks to all of the volunteers for making this a successful meet!

Top Cup 2009, MSSAC is the Best 10 & Under Club in Ontario

From Coach Andrea...

What a fantastic weekend at the Olympium for the Mississauga Aquatic Club. At the TOP CUP meet, MSSAC was the best 10 and under Club in Ontario, second only to Quebec powerhouse Point Claire.   To lead MSSAC’s success, was Abdullah Ahmad won the High Point Trophy for 10 year old boys, bringing home an impressive 12 individual gold medals, 2 silver and 2 bronze. Abdullah got also 4 gold medals with the 10 year old boys relays and lowered his own Club record for the 100 fly with a very fast time of 1:18.77.  This young athlete displayed excellent swimming skills all year long and with his great work ethic, is becoming the leader of the young group of boys that will dominate the Canadian swim field for the years to come.
